Frequently Asked Questions

If we are billing your insurance provider, the insurance company may require the referral. To ensure your claims are paid by insurance without any challenges we ask all families to get a referral from your main doctor.

We will call to schedule your initial appointment the same day we are alerted of your need, but expect to hear from us within 1 business day after receiving the referral. We strive to schedule your child for an initial evaluation within the week.

Appointments are typically between 30 minutes to 1 hour, however if your child is tested by additional therapists’ or receives therapy for more than one discipline it could last longer.

The therapist assesses your child’s skills based on their current function or ability level. Many things can affect how long your child will need treatment such as progress made, attendance, motivation, attention, and the level of caregiver involvement. Our therapists are happy to provide updates on progress at any time during treatment.

Occupational therapy is a service we provide that can help with a wide variety of areas such as, sensory processing, emotional regulation, activities of daily living (i.e. toileting, grooming, hygiene, chores, dressing, etc.), social skills, fine motor skills (grasping), as well as visual motor skills (handwriting, cutting, etc.)

Speech therapists are trained to help with a wide variety of skills. Kindred’s speech therapists are highly trained in feeding/oral motor therapy (ages 0+) and myofunctional therapy (ages 4+). These are both therapy types that fall under the scope of practice for speech therapists.

We require at least 1 caregiver attend the first evaluation in order to provide information regarding the areas of concern and to answer any questions the therapist may have about the child’s history.

Yes! One adult is always welcome to attend their child’s session, however siblings cannot attend the sessions. If you have a sibling or other child with you we have multiple waiting rooms to accomodate your family. Caregivers are welcome to leave for the duration of the session, unless a therapist has requested you attend.
